LAPD helicopter training crash leaves 2 officers injured

Two LAPD officers were injured after a training helicopter in Los Alamitos ended up in an emergency landing, a department spokesman said.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, a helicopter with two officers was training in the 4000 block of Doolittle Avenue in Los Alamitos when “a minor training incident occurred that required an emergency evacuation,” the spokesman said.

An officer told KTLA that the plane “failed to operate properly” and made a hard landing, although an LAPD spokesman said there were no further details on the nature of the incident.

The incident appeared to have taken place at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, which serves as a training ground for the National Guard, according to Cal Guard. Cal Guard and local officials did not immediately respond to a Times inquiry about the incident Tuesday evening.

Both officers suffered minor injuries but were not taken to the hospital, according to the police.

A representative of the Federal Aviation Administration could not be reached for comment on the incident.
