Gavin Newsom threatens to intervene if Trump kills Biden’s $7.5K EV tax bill

Gov. Gavin Newsom is already planning a pushback against President-elect Donald Trump’s policies that undermine the current administration’s push for green energy.

President Joe Biden used a tax credit of up to $7,500 to encourage purchases of green cars, but Trump reportedly plans to phase out the tax credit when he takes office, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Newsom, in a statement on Monday, indicated that he would offer the same EV rebate to Californians if Trump repealed the credit.

“Consumers continue to prove the skeptics wrong — gas-guzzling cars are here to stay,” Newsom said in a statement.

“We will step in if the Trump Administration ends the tax credit, doubling down on our commitment to clean air and green jobs in California. We are not turning our backs on a clean transportation future – we will make it more affordable for people to drive clean cars,” the governor added.
