The Big Ten is issuing hefty fines to Michigan, Ohio State after postgame violence
The Big Ten announced Sunday that it has fined Michigan and Ohio State $100,000 each for a postgame brawl after the Wolverines upset the Buckeyes in their rivalry game.
There was chaos after the game as Michigan players tried to plant their flag at midfield. Ohio State didn’t take the move lightly and the controversy began. The police used pepper spray to disperse some of the incidents.

“The Big Ten Conference has determined that the actions of both teams following the Michigan-Ohio State football game on Saturday, November 30, 2024, violated the Big Ten’s Sports Policy,” the conference said in a statement. “Not only did the actions of both teams violate important things in sports such as respect and good behavior, the nature of the incident also endangered the safety of participants and spectators.
“As a result of this violation, the Big Ten Conference issued institutional fines to both the University of Michigan and Ohio State University in the amount of $100,000 each.
“The Big Ten Conference is reviewing this matter and will not be able to comment further.”

The FOX Sports broadcast captured the moment a Michigan flag was planted over the Ohio State logo, apparently causing a scuffle. It wasn’t immediately clear which player tried to plant the flag, but video from the stands showed several Ohio State players running onto the field where Michigan players were focused on the field.
Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer also grabbed the flag before throwing it to the ground.
“After the game, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in ending the altercation on the field. During the altercation, multiple police officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray. OSUPD is the lead agency for the games and will continue to investigate,” the department said in a statement on X.
After the latest fight, Michigan running back Kalel Mullings told FOX Sports in an on-field interview that the incident “wasn’t bad for the game.”

“It was a great game. You hate to see things like that happen after the game. It’s bad in sports, it’s bad in college football. But, at the end of the game, they’ve got to learn to lose, man. You can’t be fighting because you lost a game.
“We had 60 minutes and four quarters to do all that fighting, and now people want to talk about fighting. That’s not good. It’s bad for the game – classless, in my opinion – and people want to be better.”
