A young mother who was killed after falling off her bike in a hit-and-run is said to have been involved

A young mother who died after falling off an e-bike in an accident has been named.

Alana Armstrong, 25, was riding on the back of a bicycle on Tuesday evening after being followed by a dark colored 4×4, Derbyshire Police said.

After the car hit one of the bikes, causing the driver and passenger to fall, the car left the scene without stopping. Mrs Armstrong, of Tibshelf, was pronounced dead at the scene in Batley Lane, Pleasley.

The cyclist, a man in his twenties, was taken to hospital where his leg was amputated below the knee.

Chief Superintendent Dave Kirby said: “Alana was just 25 years old – and mother to a six-year-old boy.

“Her little boy, and her extended family, will never get the chance to see her again, hug her, spend Christmas together, or celebrate all those important events. My thoughts, and those of the entire force and community, are with them at this time. “

Police have launched a homicide investigation and are now appealing for information about a black Land Rover Discovery, believed to be a model between 2004 and 2009, in the Pleasley area just before 8pm on Tuesday.

It was last seen on Rowthorne Lane, before turning right onto the A617 towards New Houghton, police said. It is thought there were two people inside – a man driving and a woman in the passenger seat.

A man and a woman in their thirties, from Skegby, Nottinghamshire, have been arrested in connection with the incident. They were released without charge and it was said that they would not be investigated.

“Since Tuesday, the detective team has been working non-stop, investigating the place where Alana was killed, searching house to house, checking CCTV in the area,” said Ch Supt Kirby.

“Two people arrested in connection with this incident have been released without charge – and have been reduced to our investigation.”

He continued: “We have received a lot of information from the public and I want to thank everyone who has come forward and helped in our investigation. However, I know there is more information – and there are people who know who is responsible.

“We urgently want to hear from anyone who does not know the two people, who has seen a Land Rover Discovery that may have been damaged before – or who knows a vehicle matching that description that may have recently been repaired or had parts replaced. .

“We really want to speak to anyone who may have CCTV – particularly along the A617 from this junction towards New Houghton.

“Finally – I want to go back to Alana. As an officer, as a member of the local community, and as a father, I feel bad for his little boy, his family, and his friends and we will do everything we can to find those responsible.”
