A woman in a wheelchair has crashed and died on a Melbourne road

MELBOURNE — A woman in a wheelchair was seriously injured Thursday night when she was hit by an SUV while trying to cross a city street, Melbourne police said.
A 55-year-old Melbourne woman, whose identity has not been released, was trying to cross Hibiscus Boulevard at Medical Park Drive around 6:27 p.m. Thursday, when she was hit by an eastbound Audi SUV, police said.
Melbourne police arrived and found the woman on the road with life-threatening injuries. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The 53-year-old driver of the SUV, from Palm Bay, was not charged and has not been identified. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved. The investigation is ongoing.
