CARLSBAD, Calif. & BURLINGTON, Ontario — Anaergia Inc. (“Anaergia”, “Company”, “us”, or “our”) (TSX: ANRG), through its subsidiary, Anaergia Technologies, LLC (“Anaergia Technologies”), has expanded the scope of its operations with existing client Monterey One Water (“M1W”), California, to operate an organic waste treatment facility at M1W’s Regional Treatment Plant (“RTP”). Anaergia Technologies will manage the procurement of organic waste and the operation of a new food waste reception station to increase biogas production under the current digester retrofit project. This project will support organic waste diversion compliance under California’s landfill diversion law, SB 1383, and is supported in part by a grant from CalRecycle.

The anaerobic digester project will promote the production of renewable energy from wastewater and organic waste while supporting local communities to reuse their natural waste. It will recover the value of these waste streams through the use of a series of advanced Anaergia technological solutions delivered under a contract announced in June 2023. The improved facility is expected to receive about 50,000 tons per year of natural waste. Going forward, M1W plans to expand biogas production by producing up to 100,000 million BTUs per year of renewable natural gas (“RNG”).
This is Anaergia’s ninth operations and maintenance (“O&M”) contract in the United States, and Anaergia is now the largest operator of digestion and digestion infrastructure in California. These expanded services activities, which are expected to generate revenues in excess of C$3 million, are consistent with Anaergia’s capital-light strategy to ensure long-term revenue and leverage unique capabilities as a key partner in wastewater services.
“M1W pursues sustainable, long-term solutions by using advanced technologies to transform waste streams into renewable energy sources,” said Paul Sciuto, M1W’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are pleased to continue this relationship with Anaergia and increase the benefit to our community through innovative and reliable solutions,” added Mr. Sciuto.
“This long-term agreement with M1W advances Anaergia’s expertise in the treatment of organic waste and wastewater through renewable energy generation and expands the services Anaergia offers to this biogas plant owner,” said Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia. “We are excited to help M1W achieve its exemplary sustainability goals as we pursue our mission to accelerate the world’s clean energy transition by turning waste into valuable resources,” added Mr. Hon.
