Another reality for the Chiefs: Kansas City would be 2-11 if the results of their one-point game were changed in 2024.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Patrick Mahomes gets the ball, the Kansas City Chiefs drive down the field in the final seconds and win the game.

Or how about this: the Chiefs defense comes up with a fourth down play to win.

Andy Reid’s team withdrew this a few years ago, as the Chiefs team has grown into a dynasty. However, the 2024 season has been so crazy when it comes to winning second or closing games for Kansas City, that even the head coach has to smile about it.

“It’s a unique year,” Reid told reporters after his team’s recent victory, scoring a goal. “Everyone is different, [but] This one is different as we have had many games close by. We were able to fight some things to get this victory. I’m sure we’ll continue to do that.”

Ask Mahomes, Travis Kelce and others on the Chiefs, they will tell you that they don’t want to be in this position every week. However, the reality of the NFL is that big teams win those close games, and the Chiefs do.

In fact, if the results had changed this season in games in which the Chiefs won by one point or less, they would be 2-11 in the NFL.

KINGS ARE THE KING OF CLOSING GAMES, AND WHAT ELSE WE LEARNED IN WEEK 14

The Chiefs don’t lose close games. After Sunday night’s win over the Chargers, when Matthew Wright hit a left tackle that went wide, the Chiefs extended their one-game winning streak to 15 in a row. inaudible.

It also created this Kansas City villain arc, which usually comes with a lot of game winning spots. In fact, Mahomes won his 101st game as a starter in the NFL – he has played 127 games.

If you look back at some of these games, it’s crazy to think that the Chiefs won.

It all started in Week 1 as Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson used Isaiah Cishbe on a game-winning drive when head coach John Harbaugh opted to go for two if he scored a touchdown.

That’s what appeared to happen when Jackson, dancing in the pocket, threw a pass almost as the clock struck zero in the fourth quarter, and his streak broke. However, after the video was replayed, Civil’s toe – now infamous – was on the white border behind the end zone. He was sent off and the Chiefs won 27-20.

Next week, the Cincinnati Bengals head to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for the latest chapter of the Mahomes-Joe Burrow feud. The Bengals, coming off a tough loss to the New England Patriots in their home opener, needed a 4th-and-16 stop with 48 seconds left and a two-point lead.

Mahomes threw a pass to Rashee Rice, and it was incomplete. However, the yellow flags flew, calling safety Daijahn Anthony for pass interference, flipping the field in favor of the Chiefs, and Harrison Butker did what he does best: kick the game-winning field goal in a 26-25 victory.

The list goes on and on, from Week 3 Atlanta Falcons defensive end Kyle Pitts’ pass interference to the Denver Broncos when their game-winning field goal was blocked in Week 10. Kansas City’s last victory was decided by three points or less, two of which ended with game-winning field goals.

Again, this is what separates the great teams from the pack. The Chiefs have players like Mahomes, Kelce, Isiah Pacheco, DeAndre Hopkins and many others who have been tested and know that they can win the game no matter what the clock says.

The question now is whether it is sustainable as the regular season heads into the playoffs. The Chiefs won their ninth AFC West title in a row after defeating the Chargers, and only four games remain to see if they can retain this No. 1 title. 1 in the AFC.

In 15 games in a row, almost a full season, the Chiefs have managed to get through a difficult time, and they have consecutive Lombardi Trophies to show for it.

If they make it three in a row this season, which has never happened in the history of the league, they might win by one point.
