Photos: Franklin fire erupts in Malibu

The Franklin Fire in Malibu Canyon continues to grow, crossing the Pacific Coast Highway and spreading to more than 1,800 acres on Tuesday, burning in the hills near Pepperdine University.

The fire was reported before 11pm on Monday. The large amount of dry brush in the area and strong Santa Ana winds caused the fire to continue to spread rapidly.

The fire destroyed homes and buildings, but it is not known how much damage or the number of houses burned.
