Messiah Barrino was watching the fight and was hit by a bullet.

“His smile was bright. He lit up the room. Everyone loved him. He was a good kid,” said Danielle Blount, the boy’s mother.

He used to be his TikTok videographer.

Saturday morning was the last one he could photograph of his son. About 12 hours later, Messiah would be in the hospital fighting for his life after being shot.

“It’s just sad for me that they did that to my child because he didn’t deserve it,” said Blount.

A fight outside their home involved two girls, and Blount’s doorbell camera captured the incident.

“After the fight, whoever was with them started shooting and the first bullet they fired hit my child,” said Blount.

The Messiah was with a group of children who were outside to watch the war. His mother said he was not involved. After hearing the gunshot, he got out.

“My child was face down,” she said. “The only thing I could do was talk to her and I prayed, ‘God, please don’t take my child away.’ This is not his time. He has his own life to live. It’s wrong. It’s not fair.’”

Messiah was a student at Monroe Middle School. He was also athletic and loved to play football.

“He was doing very well. He made the All-A honor roll and ended up being ‘Student of the Month’ by two teachers,” Blount said.

Blount said she is trying to cope with her son’s death.

“It’s hard because you know he didn’t deserve it,” she said. “He didn’t deserve her. It hurts my heart that my child’s life was taken so quickly.”

The name of the 17-year-old child has not been released because he is still young, but he has been charged with murder, attempted murder and discharging a firearm in a residential area.
