Rape accuser Jay-Z has come forward to NBC News, admitting the inconsistency of his allegations

HOUSTON – The Alabama woman who accused Jay-Z and Diddy of raping her when she was 13 sat down with NBC News to recount what she called a “catastrophic experience”: the car ride to the White House, the booze that made her feel comfortable, the sexual harassment by the stars -rap that can harm his health.

But the woman and her lawyers admit there are some inconsistencies in her account in response to questions from NBC News.

“I made mistakes” when I remember that night, the woman, identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit filed by Jay-Z and Diddy, told NBC News. The woman said she stood by her allegations in general. The inconsistency of his stories about the incident – which is said to have happened 24 years ago – does not mean that these allegations are false.

Among the inconsistencies: The woman said her father picked her up after the alleged sexual abuse, but she says she doesn’t remember that. The woman also said she spoke to a celebrity at a party where she said she was sexually assaulted, but the celebrity said she was not in New York at the time. And photos from that night show Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and Sean “Diddy” Combs in a different location than the woman described, although it’s unclear where they were the rest of the night.

“This incident didn’t happen,” Carter told NBC News in a statement Friday, “yet he took it to court and twice in the press,” he added, referring to one of the woman’s attorneys, Tony Buzbee. “True justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it started. This 1-800 representative hasn’t seen that yet, but soon.”

Buzbee says he is continuing to investigate his claims.

“The Jane Doe case was referred to our company by someone, who reviewed it before sending it to us,” he told NBC News in an email. “Our client is still adamant that what he said is true, as he remembers it. We will continue to investigate his claims and collect corroborating data to the extent available. Because we questioned him a lot, he even agreed to take a polygraph. I’ve never had a customer suggest that before.”

“In any case,” he added, “we always do our best to investigate each claim, as we did in this case. This has put a lot of pressure on him, to the point where he has fainted and had to get treatment for depression.”

The allegations against Carter suggest a seismic shift, which could link the rap legend to misconduct allegations leveled in civil and criminal cases against Combs, who is in a Brooklyn jail awaiting trial on sex-trafficking and fraud charges.

Carter’s attorney, Alex Spiro, said, “It’s amazing that an attorney would not only file such a serious complaint without due diligence, but would make matters worse by continuing to spread this false story in the press.” We ask the Court to dismiss this frivolous case today, and will deal with the disciplinary issue of Mr. Buzbee and all the lawyers who filed the complaint.”

Combs’ attorneys called the suit a “money laundering scandal.” Buzbee filed more than 20 lawsuits against Combs.

The lawsuit was first filed in October in the Southern District of New York, naming Combs as a defendant, and was refiled Sunday to name Carter as an additional defendant.

NBC News went to Houston to interview the woman, who declined to be identified, at her attorney’s office earlier this week.

“You have to always fight for what’s happening to you,” he said about why he’s going public with his allegations now. “You must always stand up for yourself and be your own voice. You shouldn’t let what someone else does ruin or control your life. I just hope that I can give others the strength to come forward like I did.”

The woman, now 38, told NBC News that she was living in Rochester, New York, in 2000 and that going to the VMAs “was on my bucket list when I was 13. It was like, ‘Oh, my god,’ one of those things I have to do.” He said he slipped through the window to escape from his parents.

A friend took him to Radio City Music Hall in New York City, he said in the lawsuit. People were crowding the viewing areas outside the venue where the awards were being watched. The crowd roared when J.Lo arrived. Eminem is played on the street.

He didn’t have a ticket, so he wore a suit and watched one of the shows on the jumbotron outside. He started talking to the drivers of the cars. “I’m trying to get in to try to go back and go to the after-party and get invited and meet some celebrities,” he told NBC News.

Another limo driver said he was working for Combs and that he “deserved what Diddy wanted,” the suit says, and told him to come back later and he would take him to the party. After about 20 minutes in the limo, he said, dressed in a suit, he arrived at “a large white residence with a U-shaped gate.” He said in this suit that he signed a letter that he did not read.

Inside, he told NBC News, “I’m talking to Fred Durst, Benji Madden, about his tattoo, because, you know, about his ‘Last Supper’ tattoo, because I have a religious background, so it was just something to talk about.” “

After accepting a drink from a waiter, he told NBC News: “I started to feel funny. I tried to find a place to sleep.”

He found an empty room with a bed in it, the suit said, and shortly after, Combs, Carter and the woman entered the room. “You’re ready to party!” Combs said in the suit.

Both Combs and Carter raped her, she said. “Jay-Z is coming, hold me down. I first tried to push. He puts his hand on my mouth, tells me to stop it, cut the trash, and then raps me as if he beat me,” she said.

After that, he said, wearing a suit, he was able to escape the house and run to a gas station.

“I was upset, and the person working at the gas station saw that I was upset, and he allowed me to use the phone. I called my father because he was the only person I trusted at that time. “I told him I messed up and I needed a ride home,” he told NBC News. “We rode home in silence. He didn’t ask me what happened. He didn’t ask me what I did or where I was.”

He told NBC News that he never told anyone about the alleged assault or wrote it down in a diary. “Even if someone finds out, who will believe me? I mean it was the voice of two celebrities against mine,” he said.

The years that followed were difficult, he said. “I was very depressed. I completely withdrew. My grades started to drop,” he dropped out of school. He said he faced homelessness, and at one point he suffered a head injury. She and her father said she was raped later.

Now he has two children, a son and a daughter. He served less than a year in the Army National Guard and left with the rank of private. She got her high school diploma and “got my certificate in Christian counseling so I can help people who have gone through what I went through,” she said.

He also said that he has his certificate in behavior analysis so that he can help people with autism that he says he has. “There are few resources for mothers who do not have adequate income,” she said.

Reaction has been swift in the days since the woman went public with her allegations about Carter. The rapper released a statement calling the allegations “stupid” and “horrific in nature” and slammed his lawyer.

There is a conflict in his story that night.

Her father told NBC News that he doesn’t remember picking her up after the alleged attack, casting doubt on key details in her case.

According to their address at the time, her father would drive more than five hours away to pick her up.

“I feel like I’m going to miss that, and I don’t,” he said in an interview Thursday. “There’s a lot going on, but I mean, that’s something that’s going to stay in my mind.”

The woman’s father, who said he heard about the alleged beating this week, added that he remembers picking her up at midnight. But, he said, “it was a local drive.”

When asked about her father’s story in the interview that followed on Friday, the woman said that she still maintained that she picked him up and that she may not remember well.

“There are many things, and these are the things we always argue about, something he said or did back in New York at that time that he does not remember,” he said. “It actually causes a lot of fights sometimes at home.”

Regarding his father’s memory, Buzbee told NBC News, “We agree that he says he doesn’t remember. … His daughter explains that she was not in a state to remember that time because of personal problems she was having at the time. We are talking about a time frame of more than two decades.”

The woman also told NBC News that she spoke to singer Benji Madden at the party.

But a representative for Madden confirmed that neither Benji nor his brother Joel attended the 2000 VMAs and that they were on tour in the Midwest at the time. (This woman did not accuse her brothers of anything bad.)

“Actually, what is clear is what happened to me [the] the way I took it from what happened to me. Not all faces are clear,” said the woman in the following interview on Friday. “So there are some mistakes I made. I may have made a mistake in pointing.”

The woman also could not provide details about the after-party she said she attended.

Professional photos reviewed by NBC News show that Combs and Carter were among the celebrities who attended the VMAs after party at Lotus nightclub in New York City. It’s unclear when those photos were taken, or if Combs and Carter attended other parties.

The building where Lotus lived, now closed, does not match the description of the house the woman described in the lawsuit and the interview.

“I didn’t know exactly where we were going and how long it took,” said the woman when asked on Tuesday where she thought she was taken that night. He added that he had speculated about the length of time the trip took in the case.

Buzbee said, “We tried to ensure the right place. We never suggested that the place was a Lotus club. Our client was very specific and detailed about the description of the place he was taken to, and never said it was the Lotus Club. “

He added, “We can’t guess if there was a party after that, because he doesn’t know that either.”

One of the woman’s allegations that cannot be confirmed is how she arrived in New York City that night.

One of his lawyers gave NBC News the name and birthday of the friend he said called him, who was 20 at the time. That person seems to be gone. Attempts by NBC News to reach the man’s relatives were unsuccessful.
