Trump hater and former MSNBC founder Keith Olbermann wrote a column this week, telling his old network what to do in President-elect Trump’s second term. The first step, he explained, would be to fire the editors of two channels for trying to find something in common with Trump.
In the Variety episode, Olbermann demanded that MSNBC not attempt to moderate Trump’s second term as many other outlets have said they plan to do. Instead, he told the network it is leaning more toward anti-Trump, progressive content.
“Stay the course. Audiences are tired and need a break. They’ll be back – and stronger than ever. Get the ratings,” he said.

Olbermann began the piece by demanding that the network fire Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, co-anchors of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” who met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago following his election victory to reconnect with MSNBC. two groups.
Prominent liberals have blasted supporters of the move, describing it as “kissing Trump’s ring.” Olbermann saw it as reason enough for the station to ax them, writing, “I mean, obviously you should fire Mr. and Mrs. Scared-Bro.” Olbermann added, “Nevertheless: Continue with their coffee but poor political show without them and their insistence that we all join their MSNVichy. No one will remember they ever existed.”
When the co-editors first announced their meeting with Trump, Olbermann ripped them off on X, writing, “BREAKING NEWS: I TOLD YOU SO @joenbc and @morningmika – Trump collaborators. Not a single word Mr. and Mrs. Vichy Quisling would say. trusted and – not that those words are to be trusted – and abusive.”
In the column, he wrote that MSNBC should not be moderated because “the next money comes from MAGA’s strong opposition.” He emphasized that viewership has decreased among outlets that want to reduce their anti-Trump broadcasts.

He went on to ask, “Didn’t the quarter of a million Washington Post cancellations tell you something? Or the exit from Twitter/X? What do you think is happening to all these news consumers? That they’re getting ripped off?”
Olbermann tried to remind MSNBC executives that the station was “the only open candy store still open” and that they could have a “monopoly” on liberal news if they accepted it.
“These other imaginary foundations of journalism have left you close to one. And MSNBC only exists today because the last time NBC was given to a monopoly owner, your forefathers in management said, ‘A hundred million in profit from Olbermann’s liberal agenda? I think we’ll take it.’ ” he said.
Later in the column, the professor accused MSNBC executives of not taking their content seriously enough and thinking of ways to bring in conservative audiences.
“Generation after generation of NBC Executive Idiots have looked at politics as nothing more than a kind of soda and we believe that there is an additional audience – apathetic or right-wing – that could add to this if only they offered a different flavor called ‘The New MSNBC. ,'” he wrote, adding, “Taste the new always turns into a turnip.”

While insisting on keeping the formula on the left, he suggested a specific method. “Your old audience doesn’t want new faces; they want comfort food – so refresh the menu and decor. Scuttle those daytime shows… and replace them with morning formula, only with different sets and different topics.”
He encouraged new, dedicated progressive hosts, such as The Nation’s Elie Mystal – a frequent guest on the network – and even changed the name of MSNBC.
“Change the bad name of the network! Use the word ‘NEWS’ or ‘American News Network.’ Or how about a good, self-explanatory ‘F Trump TV’?”
Olbermann wrote a column saying that if MSNBC implements some of these changes, it will gain “the kind of profits that only one can provide,” and “non-monetary skills like moral strength and ethics and journalism and patriotism and freedom.”
“Bullies don’t stop hitting you because you behave well. Stop hitting you when you hit them cold.”
MSNBC did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
