The jury in the death of the founder of the Cash App reaches a verdict

A San Francisco judge on Monday afternoon reached a verdict in the dangerous murder case of Nima Momeni, who is accused of killing Cash App founder Bob Lee last year.

The verdict is scheduled to be read in San Francisco Superior Court on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. local time. The jury has been deliberating since December 4 in a case that began in October.

Prosecutors allege that Momeni, 40, who calls himself a businessman, stabbed Lee three times with a knife he took from Momeni’s sister’s kitchen in April 2023.

They say Momeni planned and killed after learning that the founder of Cash App introduced Momeni’s sister to a drug dealer who allegedly gave her GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid) and other drugs before sexually assaulting her in his apartment. GHB acts as a central nervous system depressant.

Momeni lured Lee to a secluded area near the Bay Bridge where he stabbed him before driving away, prosecutors said. The prosecutor said Lee’s blood was found on the gum and Momeni’s DNA was found on the handle, according to KTVU FOX 2.

Momeni’s lawyer said he stabbed Lee in self-defense when he tried to stop the attack from Lee, who just made a bad joke. They say that Lee was on a cocaine and alcohol bender for many days and attacked Momeni with a knife with this joke, forcing Momeni to defend himself.

He testified during the trial that Lee later left, showing no signs of injury. Momeni faces up to 26 years in prison if found guilty.

Momeni’s lawyers played a bomb surveillance video during closing arguments that they said showed Lee using a knife to inhale cocaine hours before his death. They argued that it was the same knife that Lee used to confront their client because of the joke that led to the altercation.

Momeni revealed that he stopped his car after crossing a ditch which caused Lee to spill the beer he was carrying. Momeni said he then cracked a joke suggesting that Lee should spend the last night of his visit with family instead of trying to find a strip club to get the party going.

That’s when he said Lee pulled a knife from his jacket pocket and attacked.

Surveillance video shows two men leaving the condo of the defendant’s sister-in-law, Khazar Momeni, around 2:00 a.m. on April 4, 2023, entering Momeni’s BMW.

Some surveillance footage shows them getting out of the car near the Bay Bridge, where they were stabbed.

Lee was found staggering along a deserted street in downtown San Francisco at 2:30 a.m., dripping blood and pleading for help. He later died in hospital.

Lee lived in Miami but was visiting the Bay Area when he was killed.

“I made a bad joke. I said if it’s my last night in town, I’m going to have fun with my family instead of going around strip clubs. It hurt him. He just blew up in front of me. He went from zero to 100. He was very angry,” said Momeni, according to KRON.

However, the prosecutor has ridiculed Momeni’s story, pointing out that he never called the police to report Lee’s alleged assault even after he found out that Lee had died of stab wounds on the street where he had last seen him.
