Stefanik meets with 10 senators to court confirmation as Trump’s UN ambassador
Rep. Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., met with 10 senators in the first two days of meetings as she received approval to become president-elect Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations.
Stefanik, the current chairman of the House GOP, has conveyed his history of support for Israel and anti-racism to Republican senators as the upper house must approve his appointment to Trump’s Cabinet.
Starting the road to confirmation, Stefanik met with Senators Katie Britt, R-Ala., MarkWayne Mullin, R-Okla., Jim Banks, R-Ind., Tim Scott, RS.C., Shelley Capito, RW.Va., on Wednesday.
Then on Thursday, Stefanik, the fourth-ranking member of the House, met with Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mt., Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Susan Collins, R-Maine, and John Barasso, R-Wyo.
Stefanik sent photos of his meeting with each member of the parliament on X, saying that their discussions focused on standing with Israel, fighting and disagreeing with Trump’s support for “America’s Peace First through the use of national energy security policies.”

The meetings came at the same time the International Court of Justice (ICC) issued arrest warrants Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for “crimes against humanity and war crimes,” including using starvation as a means of self-defense. war and targeting civilians. Last month, Stefanik called for a “complete re-examination” of US funding for the United Nations and called for an end to funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Biden suspended funding for UNRWA after the agency fired several staff from Gaza that Israeli officials accused of complicity in the Oct. 7 attack.
However, the congresswoman mocked how the Biden-Harris administration “sent more than $1 billion to UNRWA starting in 2021, filling the coffers of these terrorist attacks.”
“This must end,” Stefanik said in a statement on November 4. “As President Trump is doing, and I have been advocating, we must permanently cut off UNRWA funding that feeds antisemitic hatred against the Palestinian people, houses terrorist weapons, and steals the aid they should be distributing.”
The United States contributes 22% of the United Nations budget, and is therefore the single largest donor in the world.
