Bill Clinton was released from the hospital after being treated for the flu

Former US president Bill Clinton will be home for Christmas after being discharged from the hospital in Washington DC where he was treated for the flu.

The 78-year-old Democrat was admitted Monday afternoon with a fever.

A spokesman said Clinton was released on Tuesday thanks to the care she received at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

A spokeswoman said Clinton sends her warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all. Clinton, who served two terms as president between 1993 and 2001, campaigned this fall against Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential bid.

In the years since Clinton left the White House, she has faced health problems.

In 2004, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after experiencing chronic chest pains and shortness of breath. Clinton returned to the hospital for surgery on a partially collapsed lung in 2005, and in 2010 had coronary artery stents installed.

Clinton responded by adopting a mostly vegan diet that saw her lose weight and report better health.

In 2021, the former president was hospitalized for six days in California while being treated for an infection unrelated to COVID-19, when the epidemic was near its peak.
