A nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking led to at least 117 arrests in connection with the theft of an estimated $40,000, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol and several other police departments conducted the operation on December 20, which resulted in 117 arrests and the recovery of $38,000 in stolen property, according to a news release from Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Two guns and three stolen cars were also seized, according to the report. The arrested suspects are expected to be charged with various crimes, including petty theft, grand theft and organized retail crime.
Authorities recovered 767 stolen items, including clothing, perfume and shoes, officials said. CHP has partnered with 10 California law enforcement agencies and 56 sales partners.
“Through hard work and strong cooperation with law enforcement and local vendors, we were able to protect government businesses and consumers during one of the busiest times of the year,” CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said in a release. “Our efforts send a clear message that shoplifting in California will not be tolerated.”
The CHP is partnering with the Hemet Police Department, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Glendale Police Department, Bakersfield Police Department, Woodland Police Department, Walnut Creek Police Department, of the Livermore Police Department and the San Ramon Police Department.
