New Orleans suspect brother of terrorists says ‘radicalization’ caused attack

The brother of the suspected terrorist accused of breaking into a truck on busy Bourbon Street in New Orleans discussed his brother’s religion in a recent interview and said the attack was an example of “toughness.”

Abdur Jabbar, 24, spoke to The New York Times in Beaumont, Texas, where he and Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, grew up, saying they were raised in Christianity, but the deceased suspect had converted to Islam.

“As far as I know, he’s been a Muslim most of his life,” the brother told The Times.

“What he did does not represent the religion of Islam,” he added. “This is a form of radicalization, not a religion.”

The FBI said Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US citizen from Texas, drove a rented Ford truck carrying an ISIS flag, weapons and an improvised explosive device (IED) into a crowd of New Year’s revelers. around 3:15 am local time on Wednesday, at least 15 people were killed and more than 30 injured. Authorities said other possible IEDs were also found in the French Quarter.

The authorities say that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a veteran of the American army who recently did a six-man mission, opened fire on the police, who returned fire, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Identified As FBI Investigates Terrorism After BOURBON STREET ATTACK

Shamsud-Din Jabbar was once stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was once deployed to Afghanistan, the Times reported, citing court documents.

The US military said Shamsud-Din Jabbar served mainly as a technical specialist and was discharged from the Army Reserve in 2020 with the rank of staff sergeant.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar had been married twice and divorced. He had two daughters, aged 15 and 20, with his first wife, Nakedra Charrlle Marsh, the Times reported.

Her new husband, Dwayne Marsh, said Shamsud-Din Jabbar had been behaving erratically in recent months, “crazy, cutting his hair” after converting to Islam, and they stopped allowing him around the daughters.
