A Rhode Island man is facing charges after a graphic video showed him slamming a woman to the ground following a car crash Friday morning, according to authorities.
26-year-old Gladior Kwesiah of Pawtucket is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious injury, vandalism and driving without a license.
Police responded to multiple 911 calls about a car crash at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 1A around 8:50 a.m. and found a 31-year-old woman in the roadway, crying, bleeding from the head, and in pain. according to Attleboro police.
The woman was later determined to be 5 feet tall and 110 lbs.
The responding officer said he saw a larger man, later identified as Kwesiah, standing over the woman.
The victim, Hailea Soares, spoke to Boston 25 News Friday night after being released from the hospital.
Soares, a mother of two, said the incident started when Kwesiah harassed her on Route 1, and he hit the brakes, forcing her to crash her car.
When Soares got out of his truck, he said Kwesiah tried to grab his phone and threw it to the ground. Witness video then appears to show Soares trying to fight Kwesiah before he hits him head first on the pavement.
“When a man picks you up almost over his head and throws you on the ground, yes, you start to question if you’re going to get up again after that,” Soares said. “I rolled over, blood dripped from my hands. That’s when I realized, I can’t move, I can’t stand.”
Eyewitnesses told the police that Kwesiah kept hitting the roof of the deceased’s car and pulled him out of the car. The two started yelling at each other when the woman said, “Leave me alone!” before the suspect hit the victim.
Soares was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with a broken knee, a broken foot, a severe cut to the corner of his eye and a head injury that required eight stitches.
Kwesiah was taken to Attleboro District Court for arraignment.
