Trump shared a funny video of a Greenlander asking him to ‘buy us’ from Denmark
President-elect Trump stepped up his calls for the US to take ownership of Greenland in a humorous social media post on Monday.
The move comes as the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., prepares to travel to Greenland on Tuesday. The trip will be conducted on a personal basis, and he is not expected to meet with government officials.
In a Truth Social post, President-elect Trump said he “hears that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA’.” The Republican posted a video purportedly showing a Greenlander asking the US to buy his country.
“If you could tell Trump anything, what would it be?” a woman can be heard asking the man in the video.
“Buy us. Buy Greenland,” replied the man, wearing a MAGA hat.

The gentleman from Greenland then added that he “loved the American people” and wanted to be free from the Danish government.
“We no longer want to be colonized by the Danish government,” he explained. “We are rested [off] every year [with] our minerals come from Greenland. We are the richest nation in the world. And we can’t use it. Denmark uses us a lot.”
In his message, Trump confirmed that he plans to visit Greenland soon and that his son, Donald Trump, Jr., will arrive in the country soon. The president-elect said he plans to see some of the island’s best sights.
“Greenland is an amazing place, and the people will benefit greatly if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation,” Trump wrote on Monday. “We will protect it, and take care of it, from a very cruel Earth. MAKE GREENLAND AGAIN!”
Trump’s latest post comes two weeks after he made headlines for voicing support for US ownership of Greenland.
“[F]or for the purposes of National Security and Liberty in the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” reads the text of the president-elect of Truth Social.

In response, Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede announced that he was interested in his country gaining independence from Denmark.
“During the upcoming new elections, we must, in collaboration with the citizens, build these new measures, based on the foundations that have already been built,” said Egede. “It’s time for us to take a step and shape our future, and about who we will work closely with, and who we will trade with.”
Trump has considered buying Greenland for several years now. In 2019, he floated the idea of buying Greenland and called it a “big real estate deal”.
“A lot of things can be done. It hurts Denmark a lot because it loses about $700 million a year to carry it,” said Trump at the time. “So, they carried it with great losses, and for the United States strategy, it would be good. Also, we are a great partner of Denmark and we help Denmark, and we protect Denmark.”
In a “Fox News Sunday” interview about Trump’s remarks, then-White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed that the president’s sentiments were true.
“Greenland is a great place there, and it has a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow explained at the time.
