The fast-moving Eaton fire erupts above Altadena, and evacuations have been ordered
A fire broke out Tuesday night in the hills above Altadena near Eaton Canyon, prompting the fire department to respond.
The fire has burned more than 200 acres and prompted evacuations west of the Eaton Canyon Golf Course, according to the US Forest Service.
Officials also told residents to evacuate immediately: Kinneloa Canyon Road, Outpost Lane, Glen Springs Road, Coolidge Avenue, Miranda, Roosevelt Avenue, Vernada Avenue, Kinclair Drive, Fox Ridge Drive, Canyon Close Road, Grand Oaks Avenue and areas east of – Altadena Drive.
The spokeswoman for Pasadena, Lisa Derderian, said that it broke out at the bottom of the mountain at around 18:28, adding that she did not know the exact location.
Pasadena ordered mandatory evacuations “in the area north of New York Drive, east of Altadena Drive, and west of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue. If you are in an evacuation zone, please take all the necessary items with you to prepare for a long trip.”
The fire comes amid strong winds that fueled a devastating fire in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday.
Fire officials say winds are expected to intensify overnight.
