SAO PAULO (AP) – Brazilian police are investigating the death of two men in an attack on a workers’ residence in Sao Paulo state, authorities said Saturday.
Brazil’s Landless Workers Movement, known as the MST, said 10 people stormed Tremembe, a town 145 kilometers northeast of Sao Paulo, and shot members of the group late Friday.
Gleison Barbosa de Carvalho, 28, and Valdir do Nascimento, 52, died and six others were hospitalized with injuries.

“The testimony of the victims shows that the suspects who were traveling in cars and motorcycles opened fire” on them, the local police said in a statement.
The Landless Workers Movement, one of the largest and most influential social movements in Latin America, was founded in 1984. Its main political strategy is to encourage camping in l and it says it is not productive.
The MST said the proposed residential area has come under pressure from housing developers due to its proximity to tourist areas.
“For many years, stable families have been facing threats and coercion, despite many complaints to the government and authorities,” said the group.
