Boxing star Tyson Fury announced on Monday that he is retiring from the sport following his defeat by Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch last month.
Fury, 36, made the announcement in a video posted to his Instagram.

“Hey everyone, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing,” Fury said. “It was a blast, I loved every minute of it, and I’ll end with this: Dick Turpin was wearing a mask. God bless everyone, see you on the other side.”
It is unclear why Fury mentioned Turpin. This Englishman was an 18th century highwayman and horse thief.
“King of the Gypsies” lost badly against Usyk. He lost by split decision back on May 18 and then lost by unanimous decision on December 21. Both fights took place in Saudi Arabia. Fury lost most of his heavyweight championships to Usyk.

Fury’s last win came against Francis Ngannou via split decision.
If this is true for Fury, he will retire with a record of 34-2-1 and 24 knockouts. Usyk’s losses are the only two spots on his record. The painting came with Deontay Wilder in 2018.
He previously announced his retirement before his 34th birthday in August 2022 and returned to the ring two months later.
Frank Warren, a boxing promoter who worked with Fury, told the BBC that he had not spoken to Fury before his retirement.
“If that’s what he wants to do, great. He’s done everything he can. He’s probably been the British heavyweight of his generation so far,” Warren told BBC radio. “Two-time world champion, two close fights with Usyk. He’s got a lot of money, he’s smart about himself, he’s got a lovely family.”

Boxing fans were hoping that Fury would finally be able to fight Anthony Joshua in a battle between two British champions of this generation. Well, at least for now, that won’t happen.
