With about $45 million left until the floor, how do you see Jed Hoyer using it? Do you think he has his hands and feet tied because he is in the last year of his contract?
No, I don’t see the Ricketts family putting restrictions on Hoyer because of his lameness. According to RosterResource, the Cubs’ CBT payroll remains at $198MM, leaving them $43MM short of the starting cap. I’m not sure Hoyer will use all of that, but he figures he’ll spend a good chunk of it.
Cubs are waiting Cody Bellinger until the end of February last year to get the interim agreement they were longing for. It’s not hard to see the Cubs as opportunists Alex Bregman, Jack Flahertyor Nick Pivetta they should move to the area of temporary agreements. Cubs offer $5MM to Colin Rea perhaps reducing the chances of pursuing another starting pitcher, however.
