Biden’s MSNBC interview is losing comedy repeats in critical demo ratings

In addition to promoting and defending President Biden’s last televised interview of his tenure, Lawrence O’Donnell’s MSNBC interview ratings have lost significant numbers to comedy competitions and other platforms.

O’Donnell and Biden’s prime-time interview drew 1.2 million viewers and just 97,000 among 25-54 year olds.

Reruns of “Seinfeld,” “Family Guy,” “Friends,” “The Office,” and an episode of “South Park” were among the top shows in MSNBC’s 25-54 demographic.

During the 10 pm ET hour, when O’Donnell’s interview with Biden aired, Fox News Channel commanded a 68% share among cable news viewers and a 71% share among viewers aged 25-54 , while MSNBC has 23% and 15% , respectively.

While O’Donnell lost most of the comedy show among television viewers, his interview with Biden rated higher than last week.

O’Donnell’s ratings are down year-over-year from 2023-2024 in multi-year demographics, however. “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” ratings are down 5% in total viewers, 6% in 25-54 and 12% in 18-49 from 2023 to 2024 .

O’Donnell’s show was also down 41% in total viewers, down 45% in A25-54 and down 38% in A18-49 from Dec. 2023 to Dec. % aged 25-54 and down to 85% aged 18-49 from Q4 2023 to Q4 2024.

In 2024, Fox News Channel’s primetime rival O’Donnell’s “Gutfeld” had a 69% gain in total viewers, and 152% higher ratings in the 25-54 demo and 173% higher ratings in the demo. which is 18-49.

O’Donnell praised Biden throughout his conversation with the president, telling him he pulled off a “magic trick” by passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and bringing together “domestic and foreign policy” as president.
