Alhambra police shot and killed a man who approached them with a knife, authorities said

Alhambra police shot and killed a man Saturday when he approached them with a knife, according to the Alhambra County Sheriff’s Department.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., police responded to a call about a man who had killed himself in the 1200 block of South Almansor St. Alhambra, and when he arrived a man appeared with a knife, according to the Sheriff’s Department, which is assisting the police. The Alhambra Police Department is investigating the incident.

The Sheriff’s Department said the suspect was shot multiple times after he approached police in an “aggressive manner” and ignored commands to drop the knife.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police found what they described as a “large kitchen knife” at the scene. No other details have been released.
