Inside Noah Philp’s eight-month journey from the sidelines to the Oilers roster

In September, Philp arrived early at training camp to skate with the Oilers and quickly saw the fruits of his summer work. Edmonton’s management team and coaching staff did.
“I was told that I had turned a few heads in the camp and that they were really impressed with the way I came back and the way I approached when I came back,” Philp recalled.
His stay in camp came down to a few final cuts, his assignment to AHL Bakersfield coming a day before the Oilers deliver their opening night roster. In posting a commitment to the Condors, where he spent the 2022-23 season before stepping down, Edmonton tasked him with developing his skills through in-game reps.
“They just said, ‘We really like what you bring to the table and we want you to go play as hard as you can and get as many rebounds,'” Philp said. “What I totally agree with is those little puck skills and that kind of thing that I feel like I’ve lost a lot since then.”
