Scenes From Across America Struggle With Winter’s Cold
For many Americans, the recent winter weather has been relentless.
A brutal cold snap — temperatures that have dipped well below normal for January and brought potentially dangerous conditions when combined with wind — will continue to plague much of the United States next week.
In addition to the bitter blast, parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast continue to dig in from the weekend’s snowfall that brought the season’s heaviest accumulation, including 16 inches in parts of West Virginia.
And starting Monday night, a rare winter storm will threaten the Gulf Coast and Southeast states with accumulations of up to 10 inches in areas that don’t normally snow.
But the bleak forecast didn’t stop many Americans from leaving their homes for the holiday weekend. Here are scenes from across the country facing the cold.
