Clark Bishop’s parents were to be in Calgary this week.
He and his wife Kathleen welcomed a daughter earlier this month, so mom and dad planned a trip out west to see their new grandchild.
Now, they have plans for Thursday evening, after Bishop was recalled by the Flames before their game with the Sabers at Scotiabank Saddlenyoome. Get tickets
The 28-year-old Newfoundlar is set to play in his first NHL game in three years, recalling his years of education as captain of the AHL’s forwards.
“It will be a good trip for them,” the bishop said with a smile Thursday morning.
“I’ve had a good year with the squad, and we’ve had a good team,” he added. “I think I’ve brought my game to a different level this year. I thought in the back of my head it was always possible.
“I just have to be patient, I’m lucky to be here.”
Bishop – who has 47 NHL games to his name with the Hurricanes and Senators – has already surpassed his best numbers this season, 16 goals, six game-winning drives.
But his game is all about hard work, and grit.
Thanks in part to his showing at his level, Flames head coach Ryan Huska and the staff found time was close to give Bishop Bishop.
“It’s a great story, and a player who continues to persevere,” said Huska. “He’s the captain of our team down there.
“He’s a tough player, he’s a good guy, and he’s a great manager that we feel can help us in the face-off circle.” “
He brings a lot of experience, too. Huska talked about Bishop’s maturity when asked about his new forward’s excitement about returning to the NHL.
