Folk artist Lucy Dacus recently announced that she is donating to people seeking transgender surgery in an apparent attempt to get back at President Trump’s message about gender and transgender people.
Dacus, who is one-third of the Grammy-winning all-female music group “boygenius,” told his X fans on Wednesday that he will give $500 to each person who comments on his status through a link to donate to their edits, above. to $10,000.
“If trans people want to comment on the gofundmes operation, I’ll take 10k out of the $500 until it’s gone, and if other people want to flip over and make donations, please do,” Dacus wrote.

“The government will never be a source of confirmation or protection for us, we have to do it ourselves,” said the singer, indicating that he did this as a political protest.
Dacus’ posting came two days after President Trump signed an executive order, titled, “Protecting women from gender bias and restoring biological truth to the federal government.”
The EO specifies that it is US policy to recognize the two sexes, male and female, and that men and women are biologically different, and addresses how agencies should handle these mandates.
Critics on the left quickly slammed Trump’s order. ACLU attorney and trans person Chase Strangio said this week that it “increases the risks that transgender people face in society.”
Dacus’ post went viral, garnering more than a million views in just over a day, with dozens of commenters sharing links to their GoFundMe pages where the singer and his fans can donate to their cause.

Another user, Carter Tucker, asked Dacus to help pay off a debt for a recent sex drive.
“I had surgery in November but I still owe about 4k to the hospital. Anything helps! Thanks for doing this, Lucy!” the user wrote.
Another shared a GoFundMe page for a friend, saying, “my husband Patrick abt his top surgery!!!”
29-year-old Dacus stepped down as a judge in 2016. In addition to his LGBTQ struggle, he and his bandmates “boygenius” – Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker – write music that explores LGBTQ themes and together boast an LGBTQ army. followers.
