The Coast Guard intercepts a boat carrying illegal migrants as evacuation operations begin

I US Coast Guard (USCG) conducted several “deportation flight operations” between California and Texas, including intercepting a boat carrying illegal immigrants that was sinking in US waters.

The USCG works with multiple Coast Guard units to support joint operations with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

On Saturday, USCG Southern California shared a photo on X showing crew members aboard the cutter Active intercepting a vessel carrying nine illegal immigrants bound for San Diego.

“The migrant vessel began to sink shortly after the Active crew stopped the voyage,” the document read. “All persons aboard the sinking vessel were safely evacuated and turned over to CBP.”

Led by the Eleventh Coast Guard District in California, the service is deploying assets and personnel from across the country to support operations led by the Department of Homeland Security, according to a statement from the USCG.

USCG aircraft transport illegal immigrants to designated areas in Texas and California, where the Department of Defense then transports the immigrants out of the US, according to the statement.

“In accordance with the President’s Executive Orders, the Coast Guard continues to expand its assets and use its unique capabilities to protect America’s borders, territorial integrity, and sovereignty,” said Adm. Kevin Lunday, acting commander of the Coast Guard.

Lunday said Saturday’s operation highlights the coordinated efforts of the Coast Guard.

“[The] our collaboration with our Department of Homeland Security team and our Department of Defense partners, where we detect, intercept, and stop aliens, drug trafficking, and other terrorist or hostile activities before they reach our border,” he said.
