White House reporters go from covering ‘invisible president’ Biden to ‘everywhere’ Trump: Politico

Politico’s White House reporters wrote Saturday about the stark contrast between the “invisible” and “protected” former President Biden and the “ubiquitous” President Donald Trump.

Since Trump’s inauguration last week, White House reporter Eli Stokols and White House Bureau Chief Dasha Burns reported that Trump has given many speeches, made several policy announcements and talked to reporters for a long time.

Trump’s massive media presence is a change from the more muted Biden years.

“Yes, Trump was eager to sign all those laws reversing Biden’s policies,” they wrote. “But the big thing about Trump, 78, was comparing his approachability, fitness and performance to his predecessor, who was often shielded in public by aides wary of showing the 82-year-old’s growing limitations.”

“As quickly as the reformers changed the furniture of the White House, the country went from being an invisible president, unable to control the environment, to being omnipresent and demanding public attention at all times,” they continued.

One reporter called Trump’s press release a “freedom of all” for reporters after “four years of begging for access to a heavily incarcerated Biden.”

“Although Biden answered questions from reporters here and there, his interviews with the media were rare and rarely lasted more than a few minutes. Most of the time, he was out of sight,” reported Politico.

The other side the article considered, however, was that constant access to Trump and his thoughts would be almost “too much for the media and the public to absorb.”

“Within the media, there is disagreement about Trump’s firestorm,” they wrote. “The joy of being able to ask the president why he pardoned people convicted of vandalism, trespassing and violently attacking the police, not to mention questions about everything from tolls to TikTok, is diminished knowing that it’s over again, too much to process and take in real time.

On Sunday, Trump held a 20-minute meeting with reporters on Air Force One where he discussed various topics such as TikTok and Greenland. He also took a dig at his predecessor by telling reporters that they had “like 5,000% more access” than they did to Biden.
