Lanto Griffin among six to earn PGA Tour cards through Q-school

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Lanto Griffin holed a 40-foot eagle putt on his first hole that sent him to a 7-under 63 in the final round at Q-school, the leader of six players who have earned PGA Tour cards next year.
Griffin was the winner at 9-under 271, but it was important to be among the top five and ties to get a full position as the PGA Tour goes through sharp changes that include smaller fields starting in 2025.
Hayden Buckley (67) and former world number one Takumi Kanaya (69) also made it. Kanaya bogeyed 8-foot par putts on his final two holes.
They were followed at 4-under 276 by Argentina’s Alejandro Tosti (66), Will Chandler (66) and Matthew Riedel (72).
Chandler looked out of sorts until he shot 30 on the back nine at the Dye Valley course at TPC Sawgrass. That included a 45-foot eagle putt on the 16th hole that paved the way for a PGA Tour card.
Riedel had his moments of panic. He was right at the break when his drive on the difficult par-4 17th veered left and went down the bank by the water. But the thick Bermuda kept it dry and Riedel was able to maintain the average.
On the last hole, Riedel pushed his tee shot away from the water to the left. He came up close to the green and chipped 4 feet past the cup. His par putt fell slightly to the left side of the cup.
Alistair Docherty, tied for the lead going into the fourth and final round, didn’t make a birdie until the 17th hole. He needed one more to get his PGA Tour card for the first time but his path went over the green. He shot 73 and missed one shot.
Players who have not earned cards will have different status levels on the Korn Ferry Tour.
