Mitt Romney names who he thinks will be the GOP presidential nominee in 2028

Outgoing Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said he thinks Vice President-elect JD Vance will be the GOP presidential nominee in 2028, describing Vance as “smart” and “well-spoken.”
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Vance to serve as his running mate in the 2024 presidential election, with the two on the Democratic ticket, which includes Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota.
Romney, who commented on CNN’s “State of the Union,” said the GOP “has been a group of lower-class, middle-class voters,” adding that Trump should be given credit.

The senator suggested that the move to defund the police and allow natural men in women’s sports has led to a split within the Democratic Party, which he said is “in trouble.”
“I don’t know how they recovered,” he said. “They’ve lost their base,” he said, noting that union workers have left the Democratic Party and voted for the GOP. “And the Democratic Party is not seen as rich people, but as college professors and they get yelled at,” he said.
During an interview with Romney, CNN’s Jake Tapper said that “Trump has made it clear that he wants to go after his political opponents,” and asked Romney if he was concerned that he or his family could be targeted for “retaliation.”
