A shooting near a funeral home in Baltimore County, Maryland, left one person dead and nine others injured Tuesday night, county officials said.
Baltimore County Sheriff Robert McCullough said officers responded to reports of shots fired on Loch Raven Boulevard around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. The scene was near Johnson Funeral Home in the Towson community, according to Baltimore County Fire Chief Joe Dixon.
At the scene of the incident, the policeman found the car lying on its side and engulfed in flames. McCullough said it appears that the vehicle was involved in the incident that caused it to crash and catch fire, but other details were not available.
The fire department in the region was contacted and 10 victims were found in the area – one died from a gunshot wound and nine were injured. Most of the dead were injured due to gunfire, said the police chief.

The nine surviving victims were transported to trauma centers at an undisclosed location. The details of the dead and their injuries were not yet available.
McCullough said the department is the one to determine the nature of the shooting incident, but said the incident was believed to be targeted and isolated.
“[It] it appears that the people in this case somehow knew each other,” McCullough said. “This incident was intentional.”
No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday night.

“We will devote all resources to this,” promised the king. “We don’t normally see this type of thing in our communities in Baltimore County. This is a unique incident.”

Responding Baltimore County firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, Dixon said, and render aid to the victims at the scene before evacuating.
The fire chief said he was “proud of our first responders,” and highlighted the relationship between the police and fire departments.

County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Maryland’s second-term representative in the US House, was also at the news conference and said he was shocked by the fatal shooting.
“This is a shocking incident, especially for us in Baltimore County. These incidents are unheard of here, so they are shocking to people who know,” he said.

He added that the county is “fully committed” to ensuring that the police and fire departments have full support and resources during the ongoing investigation.
