Firefighters were battling a blaze Thursday morning at a four-story apartment building in downtown LA, according to authorities.
Crews were setting up escape ladders to help get people out of the building, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department news release.
The fire is classified as a major emergency, with at least 17 fire companies on the scene, according to the report.
Several outlets reported that the building that burned was the historic Morrison Hotel, which became famous after it was featured on a Doors album in 1970. It was saved from demolition and turned into low-income housing earlier this year.

“The cloud of smoke was very close. We didn’t know where it was coming from,” said Faith Ronning, who lives in an apartment on the other side of the fire. “People from the neighboring buildings were busy outside with their pets and children. I have never seen such a fire so close.”
