Echavarria, Greyserman leads in partnership with the PGA Tour’s World Wide Tech

LOS CABOS, Mexico — Nico Echavarria moved into back-to-back PGA Tour event wins, shooting a 9-under 63 in calm conditions Friday to take part in the World Wide Technology Championship.

The winner of the Zozo Championship two weeks ago in Japan for his second tour title, Echavarria matched Max Greyserman with a 12-under 132 at El Cardonal in Diamante, a day after strong winds blew over the structure built by Tiger Woods.

“It was a very good round,” Echavarria said. “Obviously everyone knew the score was going to be low. It’s a different atmosphere.”

The 30-year-old Colombian played the five-hole front nine 6 under with an eagle and four birdies. He added three birdies on the back nine.

“It’s a tight game that if I don’t make 3, I like 10 feet for par on 3 that I make,” Echavarria said. “I got things moving, birdie on 4, birdie on 5, eagle on 6. I think the par on 3 was very important. Luck is in your favor, but you have to use that momentum.”

Greyserman made an eagle on the par-5 18th with a 64.

“Very thin air. Sometimes, very thin,” Grayserman said. “It could have happened outside. A lot of birds to have and, if you played well and got killed, you could go down a lot.”

The American is tied for second behind Japan’s Echavarria.

“I thought, ‘Here we go again. Let’s go!'” Grayserman said.

Carson Young was third at 11 under after a career-best 61. He had 12 birdies and a bogey.

“The weather is definitely helping,” Young said. “A little wind from a different area made the course easier.”

Dylan Wu had a 65 to get to 10 under. Maverick McNealy (66), Austin Eckroat (67) and Kelly Kraft (67) were 9 under.
