Two people have been arrested for allegedly stealing from Camarillo stores and hiding the stolen goods in their belts, authorities said.
Jose Mujica and Anyela Corredor-Casallas were arrested earlier this month after Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force detectives say they caught the pair leaving an Under Armor store in Camarillo Premium Outlets with about $4,500 in stolen merchandise, according to Ventura. County Sheriff’s Office.
The pair wore belts as part of their ruse, authorities said, and stuffed them with merchandise – including 17 pairs of jeans.
They were arrested and released on $100,000 bail each. They were charged with conspiracy to commit organized burglary, burglary and grand larceny.
Ventura’s anti-shoplifting task force is funded by the California Retail Theft Prevention Grant Program and aims to combat the estimated $10-million lost annually to organized retail theft in the region.
