Seven people were killed and more than 40 injured in Israeli airstrikes in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said on Saturday, as Israel dismissed allegations of imminent famine in northern Gaza.
Rescuers are still searching for victims in the rubble, the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, an airstrike in Deir Qanoun Ras al-Ain in the Tire district killed eight people, including seven first responders, and injured 12 others, the ministry said.
This raid targeted first aid groups belonging to an organization linked to Hezbollah, the department said.
The National News Agency (NNA) under the government of Lebanon also reported on twelve powerful airstrikes in the southern area of the capital Beirut at night after warnings to leave Israel.
The reports come after the Israeli army said it struck “command centers and a weapons production facility, as well as additional terrorist infrastructure belonging to the terrorist organization Hezbollah” in the southern Beirut area of Dahiyeh, which is considered a stronghold of Iran-backed militias.
Lebanese authorities have recorded more than 670 Israeli airstrikes across the country in the past seven days, which the Ministry of Health said killed more than 230 people and injured more than 800.
The count does not distinguish between civilians and Hezbollah members.
Hezbollah and Israel have been fighting each other since the October 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, when the Israeli army launched an offensive in southern Lebanon in late September of this year.
Another death in Gaza during the famine conflict
Israel’s attack on northern Gaza also continued on Saturday, Palestinian sources reported that at least 11 people were killed during the attack on Gaza City and Beit Hanoun.
Medical organizations in the blockaded coastal zone said five people died in the Shuja’iyya area of Gaza City while waiting for help.
The humanitarian situation in northern Gaza has deteriorated significantly in recent weeks amid renewed Israeli attacks, with one resident telling dpa on Saturday: “Nobody cares about us.”
“We don’t know if we will survive,” said Om Mohammed.
A panel of international food security experts has warned that famine is imminent in northern Gaza.
However, the Israeli army denied the allegations, saying that 11 trucks with food, water and medical equipment had arrived in the area in recent days.
The aid, it said, was aimed at people who remained in Beit Hanoun and the Jabalia refugee camp, which had been the scene of heavy fighting.
In the latest fighting, Israeli ground forces “eliminated a large number of terrorists” and destroyed an “arms depot” in Jabalia in northern Gaza, according to an Israeli military post on Telegram.
Israeli strikes were also reported in the southern area of the city of Rafah, where the military targeted militants and “terrorist infrastructure.”
At least 43,000 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing war so far, according to Hamas-controlled health authorities in Gaza, which began after Hamas-led forces killed about 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped about 250 others in Gaza.
The killing of Palestinians in the West Bank
Also on Saturday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah said that Israeli forces killed a 25-year-old Palestinian man in the West Bank, adding that Israeli forces have not recovered his body.
According to Palestinian media, Israeli soldiers surrounded the man’s family home during the raid.
Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israeli soldiers shot dead a man, while another was seriously wounded by bullets in the chest.
The Israeli army said it killed terrorists in the operation.
The tense situation in the occupied West Bank has worsened since the start of the war in Gaza.
Israeli military operations, armed conflicts and extremist attacks have since killed 746 Palestinians in the West Bank, according to the local Health Ministry.
