What is Lemon8 social media?

Social media app Lemon8 has been in the spotlight as a potential US ban hangs over TikTok.

The threat to ban TikTok stems from a law signed last year by President Biden that seeks to ban the popular platform in the US on Jan. 19 if ByteDance doesn’t make a difference. Oral arguments in the case focused on the possible ban were presented Friday in the Supreme Court.

Both social media apps are owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

Lemon8 has been around for over four years. It also lives in many countries, including Japan, where it originally appeared, and the US, where it debuted in early 2023.

The app allows users to “discover and share useful content related to beauty, fashion, travel, and more,” according to a recent TikTok report.

It includes “creative tools, collages, filters, effects, stickers, and text templates” that users can use when creating posts on the site, the release said.

It has integration with TikTok, allowing users to have a single account for both apps. That capability became available in November.

Some of Lemon8’s interface seems to have similarities to Instagram and Pinterest.
