Have the Warriors Improved Since Steph Curry’s ‘Meanwhile’ Comments?

For a team like the Warriors that is built on a dynasty, it can be difficult to admit when you measure up.

For Steph Curry, the moment came after the loss to the Cavs on December 30 when he said, “Like the kids say, we’re in the middle right now. We’re just overestimating.”

Longtime teammate Draymond Green disagreed more, and hopes Curry’s comments will help motivate the Warriors.

“Listen, when [Curry] I said that and I read it, and I said, ‘Oh’. I sat down and started thinking about it,” said Green on the Draymond Green Show. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I get what he’s saying. I get to where he appears. We’re definitely at .500, in the middle of the pack, right in the middle.’ And we heard him, and I think we’ve played better since then. But then again, it still has to win a balanced stack together, and we didn’t. …

“Like he said, when you go through it, you never want to accept that you’re in the middle or that you’re not a good team, whatever it is. It’s a hard pill to accept, and we haven’t accepted it yet because we still think we have a chance to right the ship, but it’s hard. To just come out and say, ‘Hey, it’s the real elephant in the room – we’re in the middle now.’ Like, okay. Now what? Now that we can admit that, what [do]we have to do it to realize this and get better.”

Unfortunately for the Dubs, the team is still in the middle, as they have gone 3-3 since Curry said.

But Draymond thinks the sooner the Warriors embrace their mediocre status, the better off they’ll be.

“The other thing it does is it also gives the boys confidence, because it gives them that freedom to say, ‘Yeah, yeah, no pressure. That’s what we need to do. Yes, of course,’” Green said. “So they don’t have to live with the pressure caused by what we did, you know? Because that’s something – come on [to the Warriors] and you feel like you need to live up to the pressure of what we’ve become, and that’s not realistic, man. So I think that also helps with that. “
