The Moreno Valley Unified School District has placed a history teacher on leave after he gave a profanity-laced speech to his students about Donald Trump the day after he won a second term as president.
A Valley View High School history teacher called Trump a “rape-avoiding coward” during a speech Wednesday, according to a taped speech sent to X by a conservative commentator.
The teacher – the district has not disclosed publicly, but the analyst in X identified him as Maximiliano C. Perez – told his students that black and Latino voters did not support Kamala Harris because she “has a vagina and uterus” and that Latino voters who support Trump want to be white.
“This game sh—it’s not a game,” the teacher told his students. “Can you end up without human rights? Yes. Will it happen to you? Probably not. Which is great, but did Donald Trump quote Hitler? Yes. Do you incorporate some of Hitler’s ideas? Yes.”
A spokesperson for the Moreno Valley Unified School District told news station KABC that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of the incident.
“We were recently made aware of an incident at one of our secondary schools, where staff discussions regarding the election results turned into a blackout,” a spokesperson told the news station. “We do not condone the behavior that occurred, and an immediate investigation has been initiated.”
The district did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A petition on Change.org to reinstate the teacher, named Mr. Perez, we have over 1,200 signatures in support of him returning to the classroom. The school’s website lists Maximiliano Perez as an AP history teacher.
The teachers union representing Moreno Valley Unified School District employees did not respond to requests for comment on the teacher’s situation, and the teacher could not be reached for comment.
At least two students who spoke to KABC said they understood their teacher’s speech was intended to manipulate the election results and he apologized to several students after class.
“I think they’re trying to make him look like a bad person because of what he said,” student Mykael James told the news station. He was in class when his teacher was teaching. “I know it was very strong, but that’s how he gave his lesson as a professor.”
“It’s sad to know that they’re trying to get him out because of his opinion,” student Sarah Ghawi told the news station.
Students plan to walk out to protest the school district’s decision this week.
