Kyrie Irving Gets Real About His Friendship With Luka Doncic

Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic’s on-court chemistry didn’t click right away, but the two have developed a strong relationship that goes up and down.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t crazy at times.

“Do you ever annoy me? “Yeah, people get mad,” Irving said of Doncic after Dallas’ 118-99 loss to the Nuggets. “He is not the only person who annoys me. I also annoy him. But yes, we just spent a lot of time away from the court, enjoying each other’s presence, our families know each other.”

“We get mad at each other when the wine is going, we start telling jokes, and then he starts showing me how he beat me in Brooklyn – all the extra memories and stuff like that. Being angry is part of friendship and part of brotherhood, so I’m not angry.”

He was also asked what Doncic’s value would be if he had to put a number on it.

“Anything that’s big, it’s supermax,” Irving said.

Unfortunately, these Mavericks stars, have only played 20 games together in 2024-25, due to various injuries on both sides.

Irving returned from a disc injury after missing five games against the Nuggets, but Luke is still out with a calf injury.

However, there is good news.

It is reported that Doncic is expected to return before the All-Star break, as he was broken by TNT reporter Jared Greenberg on the air during the Mavericks-Nuggets game.

After a bad loss to Denver where no Dallas player scored more than 15 points, it’s clear the Mavs need Luke back playing next to Kyrie as soon as possible.
