A lawyer accused of sexual harassment by former employees

In the latest episode in Sacramento’s tense legal saga, a California state senator this week filed a lawsuit against a former chief of staff — who he alleges sexually assaulted while working for him — alleging involvement in a 2001 murder and disappearance. of Washington intern Chandra Levy.

State Sen. Marie Alvarado Gil (R-Jackson) alleges that former staffer Chad Condit once warned her that he could “make people disappear,” according to court documents filed in Sacramento County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Condit, according to the lawsuit, was talking about his involvement in the unsolved murder of Levy, who worked for Condit’s father, former Rep. Gary Condit (D-Ceres), who she also allegedly dated.

According to the lawsuit, the senator began looking into Levy’s case for the first time after Condit’s comments.

Attorneys representing Condit called his allegations “baseless” and “baseless” in an email to the Times.

“This seems to be another attempt by the Senator to take revenge on Mr. Condit and harming him and his family by trying to stand up to him and blowing the whistle on the senator’s misconduct,” wrote Arya Rhodes, the attorney in the case. . “We look forward to a vigorous examination of Senator Alvarado-Gil’s character and state of mind and to the speedy trial of this matter.”

Gary Condit was not a suspect in the Levy case. Another man was convicted of murder, but in 2016, a judge dismissed those charges after deciding that prosecutors “could no longer prove murder” beyond a reasonable doubt.

Alvarado Gil’s case is the latest in a back-and-forth involving the senator and Chad Condit, who in September filed a lawsuit in Sacramento County Superior Court alleging that for much of 2023, Alvarado Gil “involved, controlled, sexually abused authority and power” against with him.

Condit served as Alvarado Gil’s chief of staff from the time he was appointed in December 2022 until he was fired for nearly a year. Alvarado Gil claims in the lawsuit that Condit was fired for “misbehavior.”

The lawsuit also revealed that Condit also stated that if he were a man, he would “kick [her] a donkey.” He also revealed that he was carrying dangerous weapons including guns while working for him.

Alvarado Gil says he “began to fear for his life and the safety of his family” after Condit “became increasingly unstable and unpredictable.”
