Braves Pick Rolddy Munoz – MLB Trade Rumors
The Braves announced Monday that they have optioned the right-hander’s contract Roldy Munoz on the 40-man roster. By doing so, they will protect Munoz in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The deadline to secure players for Rule 5 eligibility is tomorrow evening. Atlanta’s 40-man roster is now up to 39 players.
Munoz, 25 in April, split the 2024 season between High-A and Double-A. his twin, Roddery MunozHe was once in Atlanta’s minor league system and made his major league debut with the Marlins in 2024. Roddery bounced from the Braves to the Nats to the Pirates to the Marlins on waivers before that. He has since been scouted by the Cardinals and is currently on the St. Louis 40-man roster.
Rolddy Munoz, on the other hand, has yet to make his major league debut but is now close to doing so after making the 40-man roster. He pitched to a combined 4.24 ERA in 51 innings between High-A and Double-A last year, spending more time and enjoying more success at those two levels. Rolddy Munoz has struck out 34.6% of his opponents overall, though his combined 10.1% walk rate is about 1.5 percentage points above average.
Eric Longenhagen’s FanGraphs ranked Rolddy Munoz 18th among Atlanta prospects last summer, noting that he has one of the best sliders in all of minor league baseball: a bat-missed 85-89 mph breaker and incredible movement. . He sits in the upper 90s with his heater and can touch the triple digits but has below-average pitch command, with “inefficient movement,” per Longenhagen. Munoz is headed to Triple-A Gwinnett for the start of the 2025 season and could have a chance to make it to the majors next year.
