Adam Schiff says ‘whole Democratic Party’ to blame for Harris loss: ‘I’m involved’

California Senator-elect Adam Schiff said “the entire Democratic Party” is to blame for the loss of Vice President Kamala Harris as party leaders continue to point fingers at each other over their big loss earlier this month.
On Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” host Kristen Welker played a clip of Schiff on her show a month before Election Day in which she predicted Harris would win “by a landslide.”
Asked now if the Democrats missed out, Schiff replied, “I think Joe Biden’s decision to step back and pass the torch is the right decision. It gave us a chance to win, not a guarantee. I thought he could win. I thought he could win. He won in every district of the field.”

Schiff said the victory of President-elect Donald Trump rose to “an anti-incumbency wave” in the US “that brought out both progressives and conservatives and our party became associated with the status quo.”
“That was too much for me to overcome. I think the important issue is the economy,” he said. “And over the years and decades it has become harder and harder for people to work full-time to make ends meet. And until we solve that challenge in the economy, we may find the presidency easier to get than to keep.”

Welker pressed further, asking Schiff if he agreed with the former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who accused President Biden of losing the party the election by failing to leave the race early.
Schiff deflected, saying instead that Democrats must make a new case against the American public who no longer feel that the party represents their interests.
“Senator-elect, do you believe President Biden is responsible for longevity?” Welker pressed again.

“Look, I think the entire Democratic Party has a responsibility,” Schiff replied.
“I also got involved. And the former president … they launched a successful campaign. You have to give them credit for that. The challenge we have is that we need to put a strong vision that we will move the economy forward, make the economy work for every American. To me, the question is, if you work hard in America, can you still make a living well and a lot of people doubt that’s possible.”
Democrats spent the days following Trump’s victory criticizing various factions of the party for Harris’ stunning loss. Some blamed Biden for staying in the race as long as he did, while others blamed Harris covering Biden’s mental decline. Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders blamed the Democratic Party’s loss on “abandoning” the working class.

Some Democrats and insiders have pointed out earlier President Barack Obama is losingafter Obama reportedly worked behind the scenes over the summer to promote Biden’s expulsion from the race. Some media pundits have blamed the Democratic Party’s shift to lower-class, middle-class voters for losing others, warning that the party’s embrace of progressive “woke” views could cost them the election.
