Belen wins MVP award in Shakey’s Collegiate preseason tour

BELLA BELEN continued to highlight her reputation as the best volleyball player in the country today, winning the Plum Player Valuable Player (MVP) as National University (NU) completed three medals in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championship.

A few months after winning her second MVP award in the UAAP, Ms. Belen added another title to his growing list of titles by pulling NU to a 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 victory over rival De La Salle. The university is in Game 2 to complete the finals over the weekend at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Mrs. Belen followed Alyssa Solomon’s back-to-back MVP citations in the Lady Bulldogs’ first two contests with the sweep.

NU once had a 28-game winning streak but La Salle snapped it in the playoffs this season before the Lady Bulldogs got some sweet revenge in the biggest division.

Mrs. Belen, UAAP Rookie-MVP in Season 84 was also praised as Best Outside Spiker and Ms. Solomon winning Best Opposite Spiker for the third year in a row.

Other awardees include Angge Poyos (2n.d Best Outside Spiker) of the University of Santo Tomas in fourth place, Amie Provido (1St Best Middle Blocker) runner-up La Salle, Jaz Ellarina (2n.d Best Middle Blocker) of Far Eastern University bronze medal, NU’s Shaira Jardio (Best Libero) and Lams Lamina (Best Setter).

Now, the Lady Bulldogs are focusing their attention on repeating the title in the UAAP with popular mentor Sherwin Meneses at the helm and he did not disappoint in his first NU tour. – John Bryan Ulanday
