Woman Explains Why She Won’t Pay To Install Her Mother-in-law’s Phone After Her Child’s Violation

A woman detailed a babysitting incident on Reddit and listed three reasons why she shouldn’t pay for a new phone.

A woman faces a holiday crisis after she and her mother-in-law clash over who should pay the bill for a broken phone.

The woman explained on the popular Reddit forum “Am I The A——” that her mother-in-law was babysitting her and her husband’s 18-month-old child when she gave the child her phone. watch YouTube. However, this turned out not to be the best idea.

“Ours [little one] “he decided he was done, so he threw the phone on his high chair, and the screen cracked badly,” the woman wrote.

After this incident, her mother-in-law asked that she and her husband “pay to fix the screen of her phone since our daughter broke it.” However, this woman refused for three reasons including that her mother-in-law was better off than them.

“The repair costs are a lot of money for us, but not for him. Our combined salary is less than half of his salary alone,” he added.

He also noted that “they were not the ones in charge” of the child at the time and “they should not have been held accountable.” He also said that it was the mother-in-law’s decision to give the child a phone and “it was not suggested by us” and it is not “something we have done ourselves.”

The woman said her partner “suggested” her mother to pay for the phone and they would “pay her” gradually. However, he said his mother-in-law “refused because she thought this was our issue that we should find out.”

“I also don’t agree that we should pay him, the phone broke because of his carelessness,” he said before asking Reddit if he was wrong.

Several people on Reddit sided with the woman, noting that the mother-in-law should not have given the phone to the child.

Another person said that the phone is “a fragile thing, not a child’s toy.” The Redditor added, “I don’t give 18-month-olds things I don’t want to see thrown around … that might break or hurt them.”

Another wrote, “The person supervising the child and/or the person who provided the valuable piece of electronic equipment (that was not intended for use by a small child) is largely responsible for this damage.”
