The killing of Brian Thompson was covered by ‘SNL,’ which did not please the fans

“Saturday Night Live” lost some of its audience this weekend.

The sketch comedy show was outraged after spending nearly a minute and a half of the “Weekend Update” segment discussing the recent killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, including America’s fascination with the alleged gunman’s appearance.

“The manhunt for the killer who shot and killed the CEO of United Healthcare on Wednesday, and it says something about America that a young man was killed in the cold and the two main responses were, ‘Yeah, health care stinks!’ And, ‘Girl, that shooter is hot,'” Colin Jost hosts the show with a laugh.

Many social media users expressed their distaste for the comment, criticizing it for ignoring Thompson’s family. This businessman, 50, and his wife had two sons together.

“Disgusting. I couldn’t watch this episode. The victim’s family and friends are so sad,” one person wrote under a YouTube clip of the segment. “I agree. I don’t watch SNL very often, and I can see from the segment and the comments supporting it, that I won’t be watching it anymore. Joking about a murder like that is absolutely disgusting… the family is grieving right now,” the person responded.

“I mean, the shooter isn’t alone??” another user commented, confirming Jost’s account. A day after Wednesday’s brutal shooting, the NYPD released its first photo of the suspected shooter without a mask, appearing to be smiling.

“New York City police say they were able to get a photo of the suspect smiling after the man was apparently caught on camera at a local hostel flirting with a female employee, reported as ‘Lucky S. Bechalive,'” co-host Michael Che joked.

“Classless,” wrote a user on X. “Longtime SNL watcher. I don’t particularly watch myself [sensitive] on any topic, but on today’s Weekend Update they made a joke about the United Health CEO being shot in NYC. That was disgusting and disrespectful. SNL, you need to do better,” said another.

Jost also took aim at the authorities, specifically, the NYPD.

“This week, New York City officials sent a tough message on crime: ‘If you shoot someone in the middle of the street, you better get on your bike, get on the bus, and get out of here, man,’ ” he began.

“It’s also crazy that the shooting happened at three in the afternoon, and this guy just rode his bike. Maybe it’s because they have all the police in town guarding the Christmas tree,” said Jost, referring to the lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza. , which happened on the same day.

“The NYPD now believes the suspect left the city on a bus from the Port Authority. Thank you, but the Port Authority passenger who looks like the killer is actually widening the search,” Jost said as his final joke on the subject. More viewers found the segment funny, with many enjoying the Port Authority joke.

Representatives for “Saturday Night Live” did not immediately return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
