A Las Vegas man who jumped a desk and attacked a judge in court has been sentenced to at least 26 years in prison

A Las Vegas man who was caught on video jumping over a courtroom bench and desk and attacking a judge was sentenced Tuesday to 26 years in prison.
Deobra Redden, 31, was ordered to serve between 26 and 65 years in a Nevada prison for the Jan. 3 of Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus, according to KLAS-TV.
Redden pleaded guilty but mentally ill in September to attempted murder with others shortly after Holthus, 62, testified that he feared for his life when Redden jumped on his 4-foot-high bench and landed on top of him.

The attack occurred as Holthus prepared to serve Redden’s sentence on a separate battery charge.
The incident was captured on court video, showing Holthus falling from his chair against the wall as Redden jumped on top of his bench and grabbed his hair, knocking the American flag over them. Holthu was injured but was not hospitalized.

Redden was not taking medication for schizophrenia at the time of the attack, according to his attorney Carl Arnold.
Arnold said when Redden entered his plea in September that it “reflects a balance between accepting responsibility for a tragic incident and recognizing the impact of Mr. Redden’s then-untreated mental illness.”
Redden said in court Tuesday that he did not intend to kill Holthus, according to KLAS-TV.
