Sen. Booker says lack of transparency on drones causes ‘misinformation to spread’
Sen. Cory Booker, DN.J., said he was “frustrated” by the government’s failure to respond to recent drone sightings in his state and surrounding areas in the mid-Atlantic region.
On Capitol Hill on Thursday, the senator said he has issued a letter requesting more information because the American people need to know what is happening in the sky.
“I was a little frustrated,” he told reporters. “There hasn’t been enough transparency to let people know what’s going on. It’s allowing a lot of potentially erroneous information to spread, or at least fear. We have to know what’s going on in our skies.”

Booker said he has been hearing from his allies and other elected officials, who all share his concerns about mysterious drones.
“We have agencies and organizations from the government that should be able to provide more information than the public,” he said, adding that the public should have “good information” about a situation that “understandably affects us.”
The senator is also concerned that the lack of transparency about drones could fuel misinformation.
“I’ve heard a lot of things about them, and I want to make sure we have all the facts,” he said.

When asked if he thought the drones should be shot down, Booker had a different opinion from the congressman, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., who clearly said he should be, if necessary.
“Safety first. You’re more than neighbors and crowded areas,” Booker said. “I think the most important thing right now is the safety and security of our communities, but we have to know what’s going on.”

Large drones were first spotted in New Jersey on November 18, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed earlier this month.
The White House said at a daily press conference on Thursday that the newly launched investigation into drones has not revealed anything malicious, criminal or threatening to national security so far.
