Quiambao leaves La Salle to chase NBA dreams by staying in S. Korea

King Archer signs.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevin Quiambao on Monday said goodbye to Taft to chase his NBA dream starting with the Goyang club in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) after an impressive career with the De La Salle University Green Archers in the UAAP.
“My college career is coming to an end,” said Mr. Quiambao after a tough outing as La Salle surrendered its throne with a 66-62 loss against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in Game 3 of the UAAP. It’s the men’s basketball finals season.
“I will fulfill my NBA dream and start my journey by playing professional football for Goyang Sono Sky Gunners and improve my game even more.”
Mr. Quiambao, 23, has two years of eligibility remaining but chose to be an unproven champion after leading the archers to their first title in eight years last season and winning back-to-back MVP and Mythical Team awards. for the Finals MVP award.
La Salle came close to ending the streak in a thrilling Game 3 but to no avail as UP retaliated sweetly with its second title in four years witnessed by 25,248 fans – the highest in UAAP basketball history. — at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Still, the Gilas Pilipinas forward will head to Korea — and hopefully the NBA down the road — with plenty of lessons learned and awards to show for the quest to fly the flag high.
And he hopes the Archers would be fine without him, especially with the fitness of his Gilas teammate Mason Amos and NCAA MVP Luis Pablo and the back two of Kean Baclaan and Jacob Cortez.
Finally, Mr. Quiambao thanked his La Salle community, management, coaches and teammates led by head coach Topex Robinson for molding him into a professional basketball player who is ready and fully equipped from here on out.
“Thank you for three great seasons, a lot of sweat, tears and dedication. Thank you for making me a great student. First of all, I thank God and my whole family. I can’t thank you enough for the unwavering support. Thank you for believing in me and pushing me to reach my potential. I am very grateful and blessed to have you guys,” he said happily. – John Bryan Ulanday
